To create a Personal Voice, users can read a series of text prompts aloud for approximately 15 minutes using their iPhone or iPad. By integrating with Live Speech, users can then type their messages, which will be read aloud by their Personal Voice. Apple assures users that the feature utilizes on-device machine learning to ensure privacy and security.

Additionally, Apple is introducing streamlined versions of its core apps through a feature called Assistive Access, designed to provide cognitive support for users with disabilities. This includes a combined Phone and FaceTime app, as well as modified versions of Messages, Camera, Photos, and Music, featuring high contrast buttons, large text labels, and additional accessibility tools.

The upcoming update also includes a detection mode in the Magnifier app to assist individuals who are blind or have low vision. This feature enables users to interact with physical objects by pointing their device's camera at labels, such as a microwave keypad, which will be read aloud as the user explores the different numbers or settings with their finger.

Apple has revealed other accessibility features for its Mac devices, including the ability for deaf or hard-of-hearing users to connect Made for iPhone hearing devices to their Mac. Additionally, users will have an easier way to adjust the text size in various Mac apps, the option to pause GIFs in Safari and Messages, customizable Siri speaking rates, and phonetic suggestions through Voice Control when editing text. These new features build upon Apple's existing accessibility tools like Live Captions, VoiceOver, Door Detection, and more.

Apple emphasizes its commitment to accessibility, stating that these innovative features were developed in close collaboration with members of the disability community to cater to a diverse range of users and facilitate new modes of connection.

A new iOS bug is causing iPhones to crash when a specific sequence of four characters (""::) is typed into certain search fields, like the Settings app or App Library. The bug triggers Apple's Springboard to crash, briefly returning users to the lock screen. While it’s an annoying issue, it poses no security risk or data loss. Tests show that the bug affects iOS 17 more severely than iOS 18. Apple has not yet addressed the issue, so users are advised to avoid typing this sequence until a fix is released.
