OnePlus is gearing up for the launch of its next flagship, the OnePlus 13, expected to hit the Indian market in January 2025. Among the anticipated updates, the phone is rumored to debut with a powerful new anti-theft feature, designed to improve security beyond the capabilities seen in current Android devices like Google's Pixel. Additionally, OnePlus is introducing a new approach to storage management, providing users with more space without the need for a higher storage variant.
A standout feature of the OnePlus 13 will be a new anti-theft protection system, which may give the device an edge over existing solutions, such as those found in Google Pixel phones. While Google’s Pixel devices include theft protection features, one loophole is that turning off the phone disables tracking via Find My Device, leaving users vulnerable to theft.
To address this gap, the OnePlus 13 could come equipped with a tracking feature that works even when the phone is powered off. This enhancement uses the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which supports this feature, thanks to its integration with the FastConnect 7900 platform. While the OnePlus 12 didn’t include this functionality due to hardware limitations, the OnePlus 13 is expected to support it, making it more difficult for thieves to bypass the tracking system.
In addition to enhanced security, the OnePlus 13 will also introduce a new storage management system, thanks to OxygenOS 15. One of the most noteworthy changes is the addition of 5GB of extra space for apps and files, giving users more usable storage without needing to opt for a higher storage variant.
This increase in available storage is achieved by optimizing how space is allocated within the system. OxygenOS 15 analyzes and removes unnecessary files, such as preloaded wallpapers and duplicate system resources. These files can still be downloaded by users if needed, but the system will no longer reserve space for them by default. Additionally, OnePlus has reduced the size of the super partition by about 1.7GB, which will make more space available for apps and user data.
Feature | Details |
---|---|
Anti-theft Tracking | Tracks phone even when powered off |
Chipset | Snapdragon 8 Elite |
Extra Storage | +5GB usable space for apps/files |
Software | OxygenOS 15 |
Storage Optimization | Removal of unnecessary files |
While this reduced space for system updates might raise concerns, OnePlus has reassured users that the device will still be able to handle updates efficiently, with continued improvements in future OxygenOS versions.
The OnePlus 13 is expected to be unveiled globally in early 2025, with a launch in India anticipated for January 2025. As the company continues to push the envelope with features like powered-off tracking and storage optimizations, the OnePlus 13 looks set to be a strong contender in the premium smartphone market.
With its upcoming anti-theft tracking feature, improved storage management, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the OnePlus 13 promises to offer users a more secure and efficient experience. These upgrades, combined with OnePlus’s reputation for delivering premium features at competitive prices, make the OnePlus 13 a device worth looking forward to in early 2025.
